Tank shot and new seahorse

« posted: 11 months ago »
Hi, haven't posted tank pictures in awhile. And every one was at the feeding station waiting on mysis. Probably should have cleaned first but oh well! Wanted a picture of my new girl I just got to replace the one I lost. Named her Ledeky after Olympic gold medalist swimmer, tho not sure of spelling. This is a mixed tank with three erectus and two tiger tails, 2 mandarins, 1 tail spot blenny, 1 cardinal fish, 45 gallons, tank is 4.5 years old.

Ah how nice.  Your new girl looks like she is settling in well.  I would love to have a mandarin.  Was it hard to train?

I asked the store to feed all the spotted Mandarins and watched, one out of ten ate the mysis so I brought her home! No training needed and she was small but are just fine.  The boy I got from a friend in my reef club because he was a skeleton, and had spots in his eyes.  When I got him I put him in a 20 gallon that had a lots of pods, he had a lot of trouble eating mysis at first, but he was just weak.  When he started gaining weight the spots in his eyes went away, but I also dewormed him 2 or the times with the seahorse protocol.  Then I added him to my mane tank and he is fat and happy. He and my female spawn often, but I've yet to catch the eggs.

Its so nice to hear how well everyone in your tank is doing!  Good job.  Someday I would love to get a mandarin.  Sadly there are no lfs very close to me anymore.

Sad to hear that! Maybe you can order a spotted Mandarins, I think most will eat mysis?? My erectus male Auggie showing off why they are also called the lined seahorse! Also notice how he is filled out and healthy doesn't have the sunken appearance of many under fed seahorses you see at the pet store.in fact if you look at my picture of my new seahorse at the top of the thread you can easily see her plates, the rectangle area between the plates was sunken when I first got her as she was being under fed, but she is quickly filling out. Juvenile seahorses eat much more and more often than adults as they go through rapid growth at this age.

O my Laurasea, those videos are great.  I especially love in the one video where they are all crowded around the food bowl, the closest seahorse looks right in the camera!  I can almost hear her saying, "well, aren't you gonna feed us?"

It is unbelievably rare for me to get all my sea babbies in one frame.  So I had to share. The last picture has the two tiger tail girls are in the middle flanked by the two juvenile erectus, and the adult erectus hanging upside down at the bottom. I love looking at seahorse pics,  incase any of you are inspired to share.
