Doesn't anyone want to show off their happy healthy seahorses???? Isn't that why you keep them?

October 2nd will be 1 year that I have had them.  I raised 15 fry from them into adults this past winter.
Yes that is flame algae or I call it dragon's breath.  I also have red grape caulerpa, halimedia, rose pedal, feather caulerpa and a few I don't know the names of.  I like macros.

How long have you had your seahorses?

Can you post a pic of rose I have never seen that before! I love macro too, where did you get yours? I just acquired some dragon's breath and it is awesome.  Congrats on raising those fry to adulthood!!!! A pretty pair you have very golden.  I have only had my erectus a year as well but tigers I've had for two.  One I raised from a fry.  But I am not up to breeding and raising seahorses.  If I had someone to take the fry to raise, I would love to have a male. Thank you for posting pictures.

Yes I will try to get a pic of the rose pedal when the lights come on.  I have gotten most of my macros from other reefers, through either buying or trading.
I hear you about the fry, it was very labor intensive.  I have given away every batch since.  I may try again in the winter if he has more then.  He seems to be taking a break from breeding at the moment.
My pair were very dark the first few months but have now turned that pretty golden color, especially my girl.

Here is a recent FTS.  The rose pedal is the big flowy red sheet in the middle.  I usually prune it way back.  If I rip all of it off, a few weeks later a pretty red pedal appears and starts it all over so it is actually prettier when it is little.  I think it might be in the ulva family.

Really like your tank design, love the tower of  life you have going. Do your pipefish take prepared food, like mysis, or only live?

Ahh thank you for the kind words regarding my tank.  24" of height presented a challenge to aquascape.  The tower of life camouflages 3 small Rio pumps too to get good flow at different heights.

The pipefish is CB too and both seahorses and the pipe came from Ocean Rider.  It came trained to eat frozen mysis just like the seahorses.  There are pods in the tank but the pipe is almost as lazy as the ponies and prefers to wait for mysis to magically appear in the dish.

You did great, I like how your seascape works. I am very jealous of your pipe fish!!! I am to afraid to try pipe fish with seahorses do to all back and forth conversation on this topic, with risk of disease and such.  Did you quarantine, and deworm either pipe or seahorses? You got both from same source so I am sure that helps.

Yes, I guess there is often great risk in keeping seahorses and pipefish together.  I personally would not have done it except the pipefish and the seahorses are all captive bred from Ocean Rider.  Ocean Rider said their seahorses and pipefish do well together so I was trusting them.  I did not QT the pipefish, it went straight into the display.  I did QT the seahorses, not for parasites or pathogens but to let them settle quietly from shipping stress.  It's a 2 day journey from Hawaii to Pennsylvania.

Ocean Rider are not cheap but actually their pipefish are not too bad.  Yes, the pipe gets right in there and helps itself to the feeding dish.  I originally had 2 pipes but the smaller one died.

Thanks Laurasea again on the nice words regarding my tank.  Some of the pics you saw were probably my reef tank too.  Because I already had a chiller for the reef I plumbed the new seahorse tank into the sump the reef used.  Before I ordered the seahorses I slowly turned the reef temperature down about 2 degrees every 2 weeks or so until the reef was acclimated to seahorse temps of 71-73 degrees.  I know it is not the optimum situation sharing water but I will QT any new fish that now go in the reef.  Also I have a UV sterilizer on the return to the SH tank.
I said all this lest you think I have my seahorses in with stinging corals and a clam.
