Hi, from the 'Other West Coast'

« posted: 3 years ago »
Just want to introduce myself and say, Hi.
My name is Chuck.
Some of you may know me as 'cjm3fl' in some other aquarium related sites.

As the title says I'm located on the 'Other West Coast' in Saint Petersburg, FL
Which is on the Gulf coast side of the Tampa Bay area.

My experiences are with Dwarf Seahorse and Dwarf Pipefish breeding and fry rearing.
Along with keeping Erectus, non-photo Gorgs, micro clean-up crew members, and some seagrass success.

Hi Chuck,
I am fairly new to seahorses but am happy to meet another enthusiast with experience.  I will look forward to your input on different topics.  Dawn

Welcome Chuck!!! I'm extremely jealous of you. I love Florida, though of not made it to the west coast yet. Do you do any of your own collecting? I know id have to at least try if I were anywhere in FL. I probably couldn't keep my hands off the wildlife. ;)

Hi and thank you, Dawn
Hello and thank you also, Tami. Great website you have here!

My experience, Dawn, is a little 'dated' and mostly with DSH and a couple Pipefish species.
But I've been around the SH world long enough to be able to help in some areas and direct folks to resources that can be helpful, such as suppliers and equipment dealers.

Tami.
I love Florida. Been down here, and in the same county, close to 30 years and can't think of anywhere else I'd rather live. The southern tip of this county ends in a state park, the Fort DeSoto state park.
It's more then 1,130 acres and at least 1,100 are left natural or beach.
I have been down there, because it's the most beautiful spot in the area, and their beaches are prestine!
I've done a bit of collecting there too.

I've been on the Gulf of Mexico side and poked around the little inlets and backwaters. Then cross the park to the other side and have waded through the seagrass beds on the Tampa Bay side.

There is an actual Fort at the southern tip that is over 400 years old. Originally Spanish owned when Florida belonged to Spain as a colony.
There I go again, being a tourist promoter! LOL.

During my collections I've taken DSH, a few Erectus juvies, and many unidentified Pipefish species.
I always see different small hermits, burrowing clams (Coquina), snails, and fish.

Usually my times down there to collect turned into sitting under a tree and watch the wildlife, people, boats, and general life just pass by me.
With all the other beach areas crowded with hotels, shops, and restaurants Fort DeSoto park is a great, quiet place.
Tourist promoter again, I'm sorry.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome
I can't wait to pick up some tips and pointers from here and hopefully I can share some of my experiences.

welcome Chuck
It's great to have another Dwarf enthuses here.
I don't see many people raising them these days. I seen you over at the org. seems you found your way to the two best sites there is.

Well good lock in your new venture
