Cobalt mysis

« posted: 3 years ago »
I just got a package to try.  I am impressed so far with the whole mysis, no broken pieces and it is firm not mushy. Overall seems so much better than the pe mysis I have been getting lately!!!!!! Anyone else tried this? Thoughts?

I have never heard of it.  Do you get it at your lfs or do you have to order it?  They are whole but how big are they?  My seahorses seem to prefer Hikari just because they are small.

LFS, they are big.  I think your horses wood learn to love! So funny my horses won't eat that tiny stuff! If they eat ghost shrimp they can eat lol. Is easier to keep good weight on Seahorses with, imo.

I've not been able to get any that is fresh. The one store that carries it has some quality control issues, and I can't get it anywhere else. I'm quite curious how well the enrichment would work after rinsing. I do love that they add astaxanthin though!

Tami, I am not sure.  But this mysis is much cleaner than the PE mysis, much less rinsing required.  It doesn't look any different.  But I am very happy with the mysis themselves, they are whole and not mushy and broken like I have been getting.

The PE mysis you got before Cobalt; what did it look like in the package? Was it white or was it brown/tan?

What is extra interesting is that I believe Cobalt is packaged by the same people that make PE mysis, but they are contracted out to make it for Cobalt. Maybe the way they handle it to ensure it can be enriched leads to higher quality control. I talked to their biologist about how they enrich Cobalt and I could have swore he said that the same people packaged it, but the pre-packing handling for adding the enrichments was different.

The background was brownish, the mysis white, I'll post pics tomorrow of both. The cobalt is definitely better quality, at least this time. When it is snicked there is also less particles dispelled by seahorses. The cobalt mysis are larger too, which my juveniles are not as fond of tho.  But my big girl and tigers and mandarins like them just fine.
