Do you know that more than 24.5 million seahorses are sold every year for use as Chinese medicine?

The Chinese believe that seahorses are good for impotence, urinary incontinance, toxic swelling, stomach pain and wheezing.  They think that the seahorse has a lot of yang in it!

It's ruthless and heartless!

Isn't this against the law?

It should be.  Seahorses are listed as endangered species.  But this is because those who are trading seahorses really couldn't care less.  They are very poor and seahorses represent a steady stream of income for them.

Not only that... can you imagine the profits that distributors make???  They buy the seahorses for less than a pound a kilo and sell it for much more than that!  I've seen these dessicated seahorses while on holiday in a San Francisco Chinese drug store selling for $400!

What's more I don't think that our government has the will to protect seahorses... well, all animals for that matter, not just seahorses!
