Marine Protected Areas

California has set aside areas along the Pacific Ocean as Marine Protected Areas.  These areas are protected from fishing and other human activities that can endanger seahorses and other fish life.  Are there any other Marine Protected Areas in other coastal areas?

There are several marine protected areas in the Florida Keys. Bahia Honda is probably the most beautiful. I know there are several though that you can't fish around.

I think Project Seahorse was working to establish marine protected areas in the Philippines with local villages and fisherman - so different fish species had a safe place to breed. Initially there was resistance, but apparently it didn't take long to see the benefits as many overfished species because to return to even the unprotected waters.

Save Our Seahorses has been working to set up Singai Pulai as a protected area as a part of a larger effort to save the seahorses that are native there. http://www.fusedjaw.com/conservation/pl ... 2%A0pulai/

I think Save Our Seahorses is a great undertaking.  They need more volunteers.  So if you are in Malaysia, you might want to give your time.  Or you can also donate some amount to their cause!

I am from Canada, and British Columbia have a program in which I find inspiring. They're finding solutions to conversation issues; with the thought of protecting seahorses driving them. Check them out;
