When to rehome babies

« posted: 4 years ago »
Are there any rules of thumb, as to when is a good age to find new homes for baby seahorses once I manage to get them onto frozen food? They are only 3 weeks old now so they are far from ready but I was just wondering how many months I should keep them to ensure they do well in their new homes. Thanks!

I do it by maturity, not age. You really want to wait until they're sexually mature. Not adults, but after the males start developing pouches and the females get the round shape. This image should give you an idea:

3-5 months is pretty common.

They should be eating frozen mysis exclusively for at least a couple weeks before selling as well.

Great! Glad I asked. At week 3 it's looking like those left, approximately 30, will survive out of a little over a hundred. First time so I'm happy with that, better than none. :) Thanks!

Great job! 30 is nothing to sneeze at!

Feel free to post them here when you are ready to sell. :)

Great I just might do that if the shop I got them from doesn't want to take them all. I think they will be interested in buying some but maybe not all. I am quite happy with 30 survivors so far for a first try :).  We seem to have hit a pint were they will likely all make it. Thanks!
