Hurricane

« posted: 1 year ago »
Hi seahorse community.  I live in Fernandina Fl, we were struck by the hurricane, and without power for 4 days~ when  I came home one seahorse was dead, my male Auggie. :( :( :( I have Hob filters and when the power came back on all that decaying gunk when into the tank.  I just got home today and did massive water changes and clean up in both of my tanks.  Everyone else seems ok so far, but I am afraid if what may happen in the next few days.  My house survived, I survived, but the hurricane claimed one of my seahorses lives.  Is sad he was only a year and half.....

I'm very sorry to hear that, but I suspect you aren't the only one that will experience losses due to that hurricane.
I thank God I never have to worry about hurricanes here in Ontario Canada.

Ah Laurasea, I am sorry that happened.  It seems unfair that you are so careful to take good care of your seahorses and then that happens.

Its hard to prepare for every scenerio.  I have a plan in case we lose electricity but have never had to implement it.  I guess after reading what happened to you I will clean out all pumps and skimmers if the electric is off for any length of time.

Hey Laurasea, I was just wondering if your seahorses continued to be alright after the hurricane?  Again I am very sorry about Auggie.

Thanks! Yes the rest are still going strong! I keep looking for Auggie... keep forgetting he is gone :( but I am so lucky to have had only one loss.  The power of 75% water change pre and post storm can't be under estimated!!!
